Midnasty — research notes (for revised 20-min set)
Core facts (verified across official site, MYX Global, ABS-CBN One Music, Apple Music)
- Origin: Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental — this is the critical fact. Imp Pulse is at Mango Ranch, Valencia, Negros Oriental. Dumaguete is roughly 20-30 min from Valencia. Midnasty is a hometown act, not a "Filipino act."
- Founded 2001 by twins Fry and Murray Kho; active/mainstay in PH scene since ~2004.
- Current lineup reported as a trio: Nikkho, Ar Kho, Makoy (ABS-CBN 2023; "Bless Your Heart" 2025 credits list Nikkho / Arkho / Makoy). Spotify blurb describes them as a duo — lineup framing has shifted over time, so do not state a member count on stage without confirming with the group.
- Widely credited as "Bisaya rap OGs" / "the legends who paved the way for Bisaya hip hop." ABS-CBN uses "Bisaya Rap OGs" in a headline.
- Rap in both English and Bisaya (Cebuano/Visayan). Apple Music: "hip-hop and chill island music." Stated goal from the start was to put Dumaguete City and Visayan culture on the map.
- Signed via ParaIsla / 7640, a Warner Music partnership label (as of 2022, single "Solo Na Lobo," drill-influenced).
- Recent singles: "Kama" ft. Milky Lozarita (2025-26), "Bless Your Heart" (2025), "Wa Na Wa" ft. COOKIE$ (2023), "Ilongga."
- Self-described sound in three words: "Destined for greatness."
- Quote worth using (MYX Global 2022, Midnasty on Dumaguete): "Growing up in the city of gentle people, taught me to be calm and peaceful. Though we grew up in the ghetto, we remain positive. And the same goes for our music, it always tells the story of love, harmony, and triumph."
- Note: "the city of gentle people" is Dumaguete's well-known nickname.
- Have played Agan-an, Sibulan, Negros Oriental (listed on their own site) — they work this exact region.
Why this matters for the set
The culture blend is no longer an abstract "add some OPM records." Midnasty are the local originators of the regional rap scene, on their home island, and H4H/STL are the visiting side. That inverts the usual festival dynamic: the STL crew is the guest, Midnasty carry the crowd. The set should be built so Midnasty's entrance is the payoff, not a courtesy feature.
Bisaya-language rap is the specific bridge: same form, different language, same regional-pride motivation as St. Louis hip hop (a mid-size city insisting it counts). That parallel — Dumaguete putting itself on the map vs. St. Louis doing the same — is the honest thematic link and should be what J&J says out loud.
Verification caveats
- Member count and which members attend must be confirmed with Midnasty before printing names.
- Song selections for the closer must be chosen by FOMO and Midnasty together; nothing here should be presented to them as fixed.
- "Midnasty" spelling confirmed; do not render as "MidNasty" or "Mid Nasty."
